Introduction
The webinar titled “First Step in Changing Your Values and Mindset” with Prof. Ibok N. Oduro as the Guest speaker took place on Wednesday, 27th March 2024, at 7 pm. The webinar, which The Reformers Mentorship Program hosted in collaboration with the Ibok Oduro Foundation, saw young and promising leaders from the IO Fellow and Reformers Mentorship community in attendance. Also, the event, which was open to the general public, saw other young people attending. The webinar focused on mindset transformation and its importance in leading change. The session was packed with insightful key points that resonated with the audience and left a lasting impact.
The concept presentation
During the webinar, Prof. Oduro emphasized that “Destiny originates from thought.” This concept challenges the traditional belief in predestination. Instead, it posits that our destiny is not something that is set in stone but is a direct result of our thoughts. Prof. Oduro urged attendees to foster positive and empowering thoughts as the initial step toward molding their destinies. This perspective is empowering as it places the reins of our destiny in our hands. It suggests that we are not mere pawns in the game of life but active players who can shape our future through our thoughts.
Another key point highlighted in the course of the webinar by Prof. Ibok N. Oduro was “The future is not something we enter, the future is something we create.” This statement is a paradigm shift from the conventional belief that the future is a predetermined path that we merely step into. Prof. Oduro proposed that the future is not a passive state that we enter but an active state that we create through our present actions. This viewpoint empowers individuals to take control of their lives and actively shape their future. It underscores the importance of taking action in the present to create the future we desire.
Prof. Ibok N. Oduro also emphasized, “Without mindset transformation, you can’t lead change.” Prof. Oduro highlighted the critical role of mindset transformation in leading change. He argued that without a shift in mindset, one cannot effectively lead or adapt to change. This transformation involves changing our values, beliefs, and attitudes to align with our goals and aspirations. It suggests that to lead change effectively, we must first change ourselves.
